Mai Natsume, born Mai Hazuki (The Pure Grimoire), is one of the supporting protagonists in the BlazBlue series. Mai was the main protagonist of the prequel manga duology Heart series, and was eventually featured in BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma Extend as one of the main characters in the Remix Heart Gaiden episode, before finally becoming a playable DLC character in BlazBlue: Central Fiction.

She returns in BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle as one of the Season 1 DLC playable characters.

Bio[]

Originally born as a male, Mai was the young heir to the prestigious Hazuki family. One day, at the Hazuki library, Mai had an encounter with a nameless grimoire, which permanently transformed him into a girl. With no known way to reverse the gender transformation, Mai would later go on to attend the Torifune Military Academy, along with Noel Vermillion, Makoto Nanaya, Tsubaki Yayoi, Kajun Faycott and Jin Kisaragi, and went on a number of adventures, during which she crossed paths with other notable figures, ranging from a young Ragna the Bloodedge to the devious Relius Clover.

By the time of Variable Heart, she had become a member of Sector Seven, alongside her best friend Kajun. She met a little artificial human girl known as Bell, whose body would eventually become the vessel of a three-in-one entity known as Platinum the Trinity, with Bell’s soul becoming part of the legendary weapon Gallia Sphyra: Outseal, which would become Mai’s main weapon.

Trivia[]

  • Mai shares her Japanese voice actress with Ruby Rose and Orie Ballardiae.
  • Despite being related to the present-day Sector Seven, Mai still doesn’t get the Sector7 shared theme in this game when she's teamed up with one of the other members (namely Iron Tager, Makoto Nanaya and Azrael), much like what happened in BlazBlue: Central Fiction.
  • Mai is healed by Teddie's Mystery Food X instead of being damaged like everyone else. This is a reference to BlazBlue: Remix Heart; thanks to her Super Taster ability, she likes the terrible dish instead of hating it like everyone else, just like with Noel Vermillion's Death Dinners. This also gets referenced in Mai's interactions with Noel, Makoto Nanaya and Chie Satonaka.
  • Mai has color palettes based on the following characters:
