In battle, the Azure Grimoire gives Ragna unmatched control over the magical element called seithr. This powers his Soul Eater ability, allowing him to destroy his opponents' souls through physical contact and absorb it for himself. If need be, he can activate the Idea Engine embedded in his artificial arm to further boost his power, which can match that of the world-destroying Black Beast. Ragna also uses the Blood Scythe, a large and bulky sword which can also take the form of a scythe, as its name implies; like the Azure Grimoire, it too can absorb others' souls.
