Artoria Pendragon, the Saber-class servant warrior of Fourth - Sixth Holy Grail War (Once and Future Knight King of England), is a heroine within the Nasuverse, and a major mascot character of Fate visual novel, who is usually a major heroine of her debut game Fate/Stay Night (particularly Fate route), as well as one of the "Four Mothers of Type-Moon" franchises. Her fighting game debut was in Capcom-developed Type-Moon game, Fate/Unlimited Codes, prior to re-appearing as a crossover character in Team Arcana's developed Nitroplus-involved works, Nitroplus Blasterz, and the first fighting reboot of a Tsukihime title, Melty Blood: Type Lumina.
She returns in Blazblue Cross Tag Battle where she is one of the Post-Season 2 DLC playable characters.
Bio[]
Her past history is the same as her real-life original male counterpart, Arthur Pendragon, including her original death alongside Mordred, her half-daughter (half-son in real-life version) and clone. While reborn as an historical servant of Holy Grail Wars in modern timeline, where Artoria became the first Saber servant class bearer, she is commonly serves the bearers of Emiya name in original timeline for generations, from Kiritsugu and lastly his adopted son, Shiro, on behalf of the Jubstacheit von Einzbern, the father of a human-type homunculus Irisviel, and a grandfather of Illyasviel, a daughter of both Kiritsugu and Iris.
During her time serving Kiritsugu in Fourth Holy Grail, Artoria was mistaken by a Caster servant Gilles de Rais for Jeanne de Arc (a would be Ruler-class servant); befriended with her fellow servant heroes Iskandar of Rider-class, and Gilgamesh of Archer-class; and perform a mercy kill on her fallen ally turned Berserker servant, Lancelot. However, as Gilgamesh betrayed Tokiomi Tohsaka, by letting Kirei Kotomine to kill his teacher and became Gilgamesh's primary master, he became Artoria's archenemy ever since. Kiritsugu orders Artoria to destroy the Holy Grail from falling into Kotomine's hand. Her final wish was to live in peace, out of guilt of her past mistakes in her timeline, should she obtained and used the Holy Grail. She is unable to use Excalibur after destroying the fourth grail, reverting her back to weaker state when finding a new master to serve in the next War. Artoria's last action on the fourth war, also almost destroys an area of Fuyuki City, where Kiritsugu found and adopted Shiro, out of guilt of the past event he experienced, and before he died after a young Shiro grew up under care of his teacher, Taiga Fujimura.
In the present-day, where the Fifth War occur, Artoria's role during Shiro's high school life is varies, after teaming-up with Rin Tohsaka and her Archer servant, EMIYA (the alternate future Shiro), and the first encounter with Berserker-class Hercules, and his master, Illya, Shiro's adopted younger sister. However, the canon storyline takes place in some sort of mix between one of the three routes (Fate, Unlimited Blade Works and Heaven's Feel), where Artoria and most Fifth Grail War's volunteered characters (barring Zouken Matou, Kotomine, and Zouken's servant, Hassan of Assassin-class) are being revived, due to unspecific continuity relating to its sequel, Hollow Ataraxia, where Shiro and friends (including their servants like Artoria) acquires an assistant from Bazett Fraga McRemitz (a revived former master of Cu Chulaiin, the Lancer of Fifth - Sixth War) on stopping the time loop incident they are in.
Artoria was born with a Magic Circuit called Red Dragon Core Factor, which granted her a heart and enhanced circuit beyond human and magus, thus allowing her to produce mana energy, a wind element and a warming yellow fire-like light. Because of this, she was able to wield her signature weapon Excalibur. However, due to the result on last incident at Fourth Holy Grail War and her return in the Fifth, Artoria's power level became decreased and her Excalibur became invisible, and can only produce wind element attacks. Until later, during story progresses during Fate/Stay Night event eventually got her full power back, albeit can only be used during specific situation. During a final battle against Kotomine, she regain her lost-sword sheathe Avalon, which she usually use as a shield-like weapon to blind her opponent by its light.
In Cross Tag, she mostly relies on her Excalibur Sword techniques, and particularly increase her Sword Gauge. The more she attacks, the sword becomes visible and increases the sword attacks' damages after leveling up her unique gauge, while Resonance Blaze immediately remain visible with yellow aura and twice increase damage for periods until the Resonance gauge depletes.

- While her name isn't being mentioned during Toshimichi Mori's interview, Artoria's home franchise, Fate was mentioned to be potential new fates on Cross Tag.
- She alongside Homura are being redrawn from Nitroplus Blasterz with some differences to differentiate their last fighitng game appearances to matches the sprite artstyle as their fellow characters from the same respective series.
- Artoria's case, ever since Sion Eltnam Atlasia was a guest in Under Night In-Birth, and Tsukihime timeline being rebooted, whereas Artoria appearing in the remake timeline's Melty Blood game Type: Lumina as a preparation for Nasuverse to properly qualify in its potential appearance in Cross Tag's next DLC batch.
