Yosuke Hanamura (Captain Ressentiment) is one of the main characters in Persona 4, the 5th main installment in the Persona series and one of the playable characters in its fighting game sequels, Persona 4 Arena and Persona 4 Arena Ultimax.
He returns as a playable character in BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle.
Bio
Co-founder and unofficial vice-leader of the Investigation Team, Yosuke arrived to Inaba one year before Yu Narukami, after his father took over local supermarket, Junes. He developed a crush on one of Junes' workers, Saki Konishi, but his love ended with a tragedy after she became the second victim of a serial killer using the Midnight Channel and TV World for his purposes. Enraged, Yosuke entered the TV World with Yu in an attempt to find some clues, but instead he encountered his Shadow Self, a mirror image born of everything a person tries to deny and hide from world - in Yosuke's case, it was his boredom, desire to be "hero", and fear that Saki doesn't reciprocate his feelings. After accepting his Shadow as a part of himself and obtaining its power as a Persona, he and Yu formed the Investigation Team to stop the killer and bring him to justice.
Few months after the culprit Tohru Adachi is arrested for Saki’s murder, and the Persona universe’s Izanami is defeated, Yosuke and his friends are end up being the subjects to a Midnight Channel fighting tournament known as P-1 Grand Prix hosted by "General Teddie", and realize that a few of their friends are dragged into this bloodbath tournament for the culprit's deadly entertainments. Once entering the tournament, Yosuke and his friends will find their missing allies, while meeting other Persona users, the Shadow Operatives.
Trivia
- Yosuke has color palettes of the following characters: Jin Shirato (Persona 3), Jin Kisaragi, Eikichi Mishina (Persona 2), Nanase (Under Night In-Birth), Weiss Schnee, and Ryuji Sakamoto (Persona 5).
- Yosuke's title Captain Ressentiment a reference to Yosuke's resentment towards a society which resents him for being the son of a man that destroyed business for the Central Shopping District.
- Teaming with Jin gives them a nod that Yosuke's ultimate Persona being his universe's Susano-o, while Jin has an alternate universe counterpart who goes by the name Hakumen, and the armor belonged to BlazBlue universe's Yuki Terumi, its original Susano'o.
